Witches’ Brew (Homemade Apple Cider) – Easy Crock Pot Recipe!

Do you love the smell of hot apple cinnamon? This recipe will infuse your whole house with the real (not can sprayed) delicious smell and bring the fabulous fall feeling right into your home for your family and friends to enjoy!

Ahhhhh………

This recipe is also super easy! I had never attempted homemade apple cider, thinking it was for fancy Martha Stewart types, but the prep work to the crock pot was less than 10 minutes and only required 7 ingredients – all found at my local store!

I have to admit that now I am at home, the once dreaded chore of cooking is getting better. Patrick had typically done most of the cooking. He enjoys cooking and I enjoyed just participating in the consumption part!

In taking a more proactive, can-do attitude with this cooking thing, I am finding that once I try something, if it’s easy and successful with my family, I get a lot out of the process and I feel really good about my contribution!

So, here’s me bragging……. I made homemade apple cider! My kids loved it and my house still smells delicious the next day. I had my small group over last night and they were so impressed! It just made the whole house an inviting and warm environment to share with friends.

Our best couples’ costume! That’s a fact Jack!

The great thing about apple cider at Halloween time is that all the kids love it – and you can make huge batches and share with the neighbors! Look at you!

It is a perfect recipe for the chilly, exhausting night we all chase our kids down from house to house, trying to minimize the amount of candy that they eat! Here’s a cool article that helps us parents limit candy intake in a very sneaky way!

Good luck to you on that!

Speaking of exhausting, if you need to take the Halloween edge off (sigh the joys of pregnancy prevent me here – but drink one for me!), this recipe will even will double as a “spirit” – just add your favorite bourbon whiskey into your glass!

So here’s to fall and to the warm deliciousness that makes it so memorable!

Make sure to send this recipe to your friends so they can spread the fall love around!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours
Total Time 4 hours 10 minutes
Course Drinks
Cuisine American
Servings 15

Ingredients

  • 8 large apples: Mixture (Granny, Honey Crisp, Gala) cored and quartered
  • 1 orange peeled and segmented
  • 1 lemon peeled and segmented
  • 1 bag whole pitted cherries frozen
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  • Place the quartered apples, orange, lemon and cherries into your crock pot (6 quart size). Add cinnamon sticks and cloves. Pour water over the top (just enough to cover fruit).
  • Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.
  • Optional: Mash the fruit with a potato masher to release the juices and cook additional hour. Strain the solids out from liquid using a fine mesh sleeve.
  • Optional: Use the remainder of solids (mashed) as a delicious apple sauce!

Notes

I did not mash up the fruit because it expanded enough on it's own for delicious flavor.
But, we did use the fruit and the little juice we had leftover to create a delicious apple sauce! Had it for breakfast the next day and the kids loved it!
